The 2015 Honda Civic

The 2015 Honda Civic

For years and years now, the Honda Civic has represented may be best – and the smartest – purchase when people are looking to get the most bang for their buck in the automobile world.

Small enough to save a lot on gas but big enough to not feel cramped, fast enough to get you on the highway without any trouble but not so speedy to get you sucked into speeding tickets, everything about the new 2015 Honda Civic screams “minor upgrades” – but that’s not a bad thing.

After all, when you’re responsible for creating what many consider to be the very best entry-level coupe and sedan, it’s really hard to find areas to improve.

One of the coolest things about the new 2015 Honda Civic is that it has been upgraded as far as acceleration and braking are concerned.

The older versions of the Honda Civic (those that aren’t badged with the “SI” designation, anyway) weren’t exactly known for their acceleration right out of the box. Sure, drivers could effortlessly upgrade all kinds of engine components and strap on a cold air intake for next to nothing to improve performance almost immediately – but that required a bit of tinkering some just weren’t comfortable with.

Braking was also very lackluster with older versions of the Honda Civic, not really providing drivers with that “stop on a dime” performance that they expect.

Both of those areas have been overhauled dramatically without adding any extra weight to the vehicle. This keeps the car light, maneuverable, and (maybe most importantly) very fuel-efficient, but adds a lot of extra points in the acceleration and safety arena.

Honda Civics aren’t exactly as cheap as they used to be, and honestly when you start to get to the higher trim levels of the 2015 Honda Civic lineup you’re going to be looking at spending almost as much as an entry-level Mercedes-Benz C class or even and Audi A4.

The resale value of Honda Civics is a big advantage that somewhat offsets this negative, but you’re still going to have to ask yourself whether or not spending premium German luxury money on a Honda Civic makes sense any longer.

What makes the Honda Civic so exciting?

At the end of the day, Honda Civics are still some of the sharpest looking vehicles on the road and still get absolutely incredible gas mileage. The 2015 Honda Civic is a beauty regardless of whether you go with the coupe or the sedan stylings, and you’re always going to be able to find cheap parts to repair or replace anything that goes wrong.

2015 Acura MDX

The 2015 Acura MDX

2015mdxFor a couple of years now it feels like Acura has been trying to play catch-up with the rest of the luxury SUV/crossover marketplace, but in 2015 they didn’t just pull neck and neck with the competition – they pulled way ahead.

Absolutely everything about the new 2015 Acura MDX has been redesigned almost from the ground up, bringing a whole bunch of luxury features to the table without commanding a skyhigh price tag (we are looking at you, Mercedes-Benz with your G Wagon). Acura has always had a reputation for fine engineering, reliability, and durability, but they’ve always left a little bit to be desired in the “creature comforts” arena.

Nothing could be further from the truth any longer with the new MDX.

The very first thing that you’re going to notice about the 2015 MDX is that it has stolen a couple of design cues from its sports car division without sacrificing any “family-friendly” safety, security, or comfort features.

The outside is very aggressively styled upfront and throughout the back without compromising any headroom, any leg room, or any storage space. We’re not quite sure how Acura engineers pulled it off, but they did.

Opening the door to the new MDX and having a look around may naturally lead you to believe that you accidentally popped the door on an Audi or a BMW SUV/crossover, as there are luxury features and plush appointments throughout.

The leather upholstery is absolutely gorgeous (and comfortable), the entire cabin is controlled by multiple “climate control zones” that can be adjusted independently, and the front seats are heated as well as air-conditioned.

Security and safety features of bound, there’s an 8.4 inch touchscreen navigation/multimedia center upfront, and a premium sound system makes sure that all passengers are as comfortable as it gets.

The only thing that is really holding back the 2015 Acura MDX from being something really special is the brand name Acura. People are still calling Acura a “pretender” in the luxury market, which seems more than a little bit crazy considering the caliber of vehicles that they’ve been responsible for over the last 15 years or so.

Nevertheless, the perception still exists – though we expect the new MDX to smash that perception to pieces once enough people get their hands on it.
